Keema (ground meat curry)

Keema would traditionally be made with ground lamb in India. I have made it with ground lamb, ground chicken, but most usually with ground beef. This is not a very complete recipe because most people cannot stomach the amount of spices that I put in my keema. This is the general idea of the recipe. If you want something more complete, do a google search on “keema recipe”.


2 pounds ground meat
1 white onion chopped
2-3 cups of stock and/or water
1 cup brown rice
curry paste to taste OR curry powder, red pepper, black pepper, salt to taste
frozen or fresh peas

How to Make it

Brown the meat in a dutch oven. Drain off the fat.

Add stock, onions, brown rice, and seasonings. Stir.  Bring to  boil.

Simmer covered until rice is soft, about 45 minutes.

Taste and adjust spicing.

Add 1-2 cups frozen peas. Stir. Simmer until peas are hot.

Serve with brown rice or corn tortillas and raita.
